PITTSBURGH, PA – A disturbing case of tax evasion has come to light in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Quincy K. Denson, a resident of Clairton, has pleaded guilty in federal court on charges of Aiding or Assisting in the Preparation or Filing of False Federal Income Tax Returns.
According to the guilty plea, Denson, while a tax preparer at Cititax Tax Refund in Pittsburgh, prepared false federal income tax returns for other persons that included false Schedule C information, and which requested a false tax refund for the taxpayer.
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
At a hearing before United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer, Denson pleaded guilty to two counts. The law provides for a total sentence of three years imprisonment for each count, a fine of $250,000.00 or both.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Judge Fischer scheduled the sentencing for October 3, 2019 at 11 a.m.
The case highlights the importance of vigilance in the filing of tax returns. Taxpayers must be cautious when entrusting others with their financial information, and the consequences of falsifying tax returns can be severe.
