New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty to Gun and Narcotics Violations
In a shocking turn of events, Quintrell Brown, a 19-year-old resident of New Orleans, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including conspiracy to possess stolen cars, possession of a firearm, and intent to distribute tapentadol. On November 14, 2023, Brown appeared before U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to face the court.
According to court documents, Brown was arrested in the French Quarter section of New Orleans on February 11, 2023. When NOPD officers attempted to stop him, he fled and threw a loaded Glock Model 19 handgun into a dumpster. Upon apprehension, Brown was found to be in possession of 60 tapentadol pills and over $2,500 cash. Text messages from Brown’s cell phone revealed him selling tapentadol.
Brown’s connection to the Norfolk Southern Automotive Distribution Facility, where several Ford vehicles were stolen on March 27, 2023, was also exposed. His cell phone connected to a ‘Ford Explorer’ over 200 times between March 21 and April 3, 2023. Surveillance footage captured Brown occupying a Ford Explorer Timberline on multiple occasions between March 27 and April 3, 2023.
Co-defendants Nickie Whitley and Erin Murthil also pleaded guilty on November 16, 2023. Whitley pleaded guilty to four counts of possessing a car stolen from the Facility in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 659. Murthil pleaded guilty to two counts of the same offense.
Whitley was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). Murthil pleaded guilty to possession of a machinegun in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(o) and 924(a)(2).
The investigation, which involved law enforcement tracking a stolen vehicle to a residence in the Seventh Ward section of New Orleans, resulted in the recovery of several stolen vehicles, including a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor, a 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Outer Banks, and a 2023 Lincoln Aviator. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted a function test of a Glock Model 17, which had a machinegun conversion device and drum magazine attached to it.
Quintrell Brown’s sentence is currently pending. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed against the defendants. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of gun and narcotics trafficking in our community.
