Quotez Tyveck Pair, Fentanyl Trafficking, Virginia 2020

A Richmond man has been convicted of distributing fentanyl on multiple occasions in the Eastern District of Virginia.

According to court records and evidence presented at trial, Quotez Tyveck Pair, 33, a known drug trafficker operating in Mosby Court, a Richmond public housing community, engaged in two separate distributions of fentanyl to a law enforcement cooperator.

Between October 2019 and November 2019, Drug Enforcement Administration agents utilized a cooperator to execute two controlled drug purchases from Pair. The cooperator, working with law enforcement, purchased one ounce of heroin on October 30, 2019, and two ounces of heroin on November 12, 2019, from Pair. Upon inspection, both substances purchased from Pair were found to be fentanyl.

Pair was found guilty on two counts of unlawfully distributing more than 40 grams of a mixture and substance containing fentanyl. Pair faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison when sentenced on May 20.

“Fentanyl is 50 times more potent than heroin and is extremely lethal, especially when sold under false pretenses,” said Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “This type of conduct has unfortunately helped fuel the fires of the opioid crisis. EDVA will continue to hold accountable individuals who peddle this harmful substance in our communities for profit and risk the lives of our loved ones.”

Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division, made the announcement after Senior U.S. District Robert E. Payne accepted the verdict.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia L. Norman is prosecuting the case.
