Ra-Melle Lewis Williams, Felon with Firearm, Iowa 2024

A Chicago man, Ra-Melle Lewis Williams, has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing and distributing controlled substances and a firearm.

According to court documents, 53-year-old Ra-Melle Lewis Williams, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, received a five-year prison term for his guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance on December 23, 2024.

Williams’ prior conviction for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm contributed to the severity of his sentence.

In April 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Williams’ residence, discovering methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, along with a firearm.

Williams was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 60 months’ imprisonment, which will be followed by a five-year term of supervised release. In the federal system, there is no parole.

Williams is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin and investigated by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
