Ralph Justin Saunders Charged with Heroin/Fentanyl Possession in Pennsylvania
A 32-year-old man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been accused of possessing a large quantity of heroin and fentanyl, a highly addictive and deadly opioid mixture. Ralph Justin Saunders, a resident of the Perry South neighborhood, was arrested on March 17, 2020, and has been detained ever since.
According to the indictment, Saunders possessed with the intent to distribute at least 100 grams of a mixture containing detectable amounts of heroin and fentanyl, both scheduled controlled substances under federal law. This charge is a direct result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The law provides for a severe punishment for those found guilty of this offense. Saunders faces a minimum of five years to a maximum of 40 years in prison, along with a fine of up to $5,000,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the court based on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history the defendant may have.
Assistant United States Attorney Jerome A. Moschetta is handling the prosecution of this case on behalf of the government. An indictment is merely an accusation, and Saunders is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The indictment against Saunders was handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh, and the case serves as a reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis in Pennsylvania and across the country. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those responsible for the distribution of these deadly substances.
As the opioid epidemic continues to claim lives and destroy families, it is essential that those who profit from its sale are held accountable. The investigation and prosecution of Saunders’s case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to this effort and serve as a warning to others who may be involved in the heroin and fentanyl trade.
The public is encouraged to report any information regarding suspicious activity or potential opioid distribution to the authorities. By working together, we can make our communities safer and reduce the devastating impact of the opioid crisis.
