DETROIT — Isaac Sissel, 26, a notorious criminal who skips town after every crime, was today sentenced to thirty months for threatening to kill conservative Christians with an AR-15 assault rifle, announced United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr.
Gorgon stood alongside Reuben C. Coleman, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), at the sentencing announcement.
According to court documents, Sissel, who has a history of creating Reddit accounts with menacing names like “ShootUpTrumpRally” and “PlanningToKillTrump,” sent an anonymous tip to the FBI on November 2, 2024. He claimed he would ‘carry out an attack against conservative christian filth in the event trump wins the election,’ and mentioned having a stolen AR-15. The threat was made just days before President Trump’s campaign rally in Michigan and four months after another Trump rally was attacked with an AR-style weapon.
Sissel, already a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms, but there was no evidence that he actually possessed the AR-15. In April 2025, Sissel pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting threats in interstate commerce, with the government also charging him with a Hate Crimes Motivation enhancement for selecting his victims based on their religion.
“We live in evil times,” U.S. Attorney Gorgon commented. “Even in America, Christians are targeted by violent extremists like Sissel. The First Amendment does not protect true threats that undermine religious liberty.”
Acting Special Agent in Charge Reuben Coleman emphasized the FBI’s zero tolerance for such threats: “This case reflects our commitment to protecting Americans from individuals who seek to instill fear and violence. We thank all involved for their tireless efforts.”
