Randy Charriez-Rolón Found Guilty of Transportation of a Minor with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Conduct
A San Juan jury has delivered a guilty verdict against Randy Charriez-Rolón, a 30-year-old man accused of transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual conduct. According to the indictment, Charriez-Rolón is accused of transporting an 8-10 year-old victim to various locations in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, where he sexually abused the child.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Charriez-Rolón purchased gifts for the victim to entice them into engaging in illicit sexual conduct. Additionally, the defendant is accused of threatening to harm the victim and their parents if they did not comply with his demands.
The guilty verdict was announced by United States Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, who expressed her commitment to apprehending and prosecuting individuals who victimize children. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marshal Morgan and Special Assistant United States Attorney Cristina Caraballo.
Randy Charriez-Rolón was found guilty of two counts of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual conduct and one count of possession of child pornography. As a result of the guilty verdict, the defendant faces a maximum penalty of up to life imprisonment.
The defendant is currently remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 2015. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico will continue to prosecute individuals who engage in sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
