Memphis’ Randy Oliver, 44, has been locked away for the better part of a decade following his latest conviction. The career offender was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing a controlled substance with an intent to distribute. Interim United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, Joseph C. Murphy, Jr., announced the sentence on Thursday.
According to court documents, Oliver has been a fixture on the drug scene, selling cocaine to an ATF undercover agent on June 1, 2023, and later a mix of cocaine and fentanyl on July 6, 2023. His arrest came on July 20, 2023, when police found 53 grams of cocaine during another attempted sale.
Oliver’s criminal record is extensive, including 11 previous convictions for drug and firearms-related offenses. His federal conviction in 2010 was for distribution of heroin. The sentence handed down by District Judge John T. Fowlkes, Jr., on September 9, 2025, includes no parole in the federal system.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Wendy Cornejo, William Bateman, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Raven Icaza prosecuted the case for the United States. The ATF led the investigation that ultimately resulted in Oliver’s sentence.
This is just the latest chapter in Memphis’ ongoing battle against drug trafficking, a war that shows no signs of abating. As the city grapples with its addiction crisis, figures like Oliver continue to face the consequences of their actions.
