GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A Rankin County woman has been sentenced to serve a year and one day in federal prison for her role in a counterfeit currency scheme. Mary Glassmire Sessums, 43, was also ordered to undergo two years of supervised release following her conviction.
Sessums was identified by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, Pelahatchie Police Department, and Brandon Police Department as one of two individuals responsible for passing counterfeit U.S. currency in the county. The investigation began after several residents reported suspicious purchases made at garage sales using phony money.
Local citizens provided crucial information that led to Sessums’ arrest alongside Purvis Dustin Ward, who was also charged with related offenses. A search warrant executed at Ward’s residence uncovered counterfeit currency, uncut sheets of the fake bills, and equipment used to produce them.
Sessums pleaded guilty on March 13, 2024, to charges of possessing and passing counterfeit currency. Her co-conspirator, Ward, was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to making and passing counterfeit currency.
The U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Resident Agent in Charge Kyle Smith of the United States Secret Service announced the sentences. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kabah Ealy and Dave Fulcher, with investigations conducted by multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies.
