Rapid City Felon Sentenced for Illegal Gun Possession

RAPID CITY – A Rapid City, South Dakota man has been hit with a tough sentence for his illegal firearm possession. U.S. Circuit Judge Jonathan A. Kobes announced on February 1, 2023, that the defendant, identified as 25-year-old Bullman, will serve three years and one month in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Bullman was indicted for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person by a federal grand jury back in July 2022. He pleaded guilty on October 14, 2022, after he was caught with an Iberia Firearms Incorporated, model JS40, .40 caliber, semi-automatic pistol in April 2022.

The prohibited firearm was discovered following Bullman’s encounter with law enforcement. As a previously convicted felon, he is legally barred from possessing firearms. This sentence is the result of a case that falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson led the prosecution in this case. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Rapid City Police Department. Upon sentencing, Bullman was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The PSN program, launched on May 26, 2021, focuses on fostering trust, supporting community-based violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement, and measuring results to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
