RALEIGH – The grim tally of North Carolina’s war on drugs rose yet again as Rashon Deshay McNeil, 28, from Sharpsburg, received a chilling sentence for his role in the local drug trade.
In a federal court in Raleigh, Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle handed down a severe 96-month imprisonment term, followed by an additional 3 years of supervised release, to McNeil, who was indicted on December 4, 2018.
McNeil faced four counts of distributing heroin and cocaine, crimes he admitted to on February 6, 2019. The investigation, a testament to law enforcement’s relentless pursuit of justice, revealed that the defendant distributed drugs in Wilson county, North Carolina, utilizing an informant for controlled buys.
The feds had their hooks into McNeil long before his federal charges were filed. On November 5, 2018, he was nabbed on state charges, found with cocaine base (crack), marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, including two digital scales.
This case is a direct hit in the United States Attorney’s Office’s Take Back North Carolina Initiative, which targets violent crime, drug trafficking, and crimes against law enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Dena King led the prosecution on behalf of the government.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson Police Department, and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
