Holyoke Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Dealing
A Holyoke man is facing serious consequences after pleading guilty to dealing cocaine in Western Massachusetts.
Raul Ramos, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts.
On November 8, 2016, Ramos distributed 27.712 grams of cocaine in exchange for $1,300. The charges are a result of a federal, state, and local law enforcement investigation into drug trafficking in Springfield and Holyoke.
The charging statute provides for a sentence of no greater than 30 years in prison, a minimum of six years of supervised release, and a fine of $2 million dollars. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Ramos is currently awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for May 3, 2018. The investigation into the case was a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, Colonel Kerry A. Gilpin, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, Springfield Police Commissioner John Barbieri, and Holyoke Police Chief James M. Neiswanger.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse is prosecuting the case.
