Grimy Times Exclusive: In a stunning turn of events, Raymond Anthony Napolitan, a 52-year-old man from Farrell, Pennsylvania, has been re-sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale cocaine trafficking operation.
Napolitan’s initial sentence of 78 months was handed down in 2012 by Judge Arthur Schwab, but the Third Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the judgment in 2014, citing insufficient punishment for the egregious crime.
In a highly publicized trial, a federal jury found Napolitan guilty of possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine on June 29, 2007.
The case against Napolitan was a collaborative effort between the Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Department, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mercer County Drug Task Force.
Assistant United States Attorney Eric S. Rosen prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, arguing that Napolitan’s initial sentence was woefully inadequate given the severity of his crimes.
U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, stating that their tireless efforts led to the successful prosecution of Napolitan.
Napolitan’s new sentence will run consecutive to his state court sexual assault sentence, ensuring that the convicted felon will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.
