Child Predator Caught: Reed Christopher LeBlanc Guilty of Distributing Child Pornography

In a disturbing case that exposes the dark underbelly of the internet, Reed Christopher LeBlanc, 20, a former resident of Huntsville, Texas, has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography. This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many to wonder how such atrocities can occur in their own backyard.

According to federal authorities, the investigation began after a federal agent with the New York office of the FBI downloaded several images of child pornography from the internet, which were later traced to a computer used by LeBlanc.

On December 3, 2012, federal agents served a search warrant at LeBlanc’s Huntsville address and seized his Apple computer. A forensic exam revealed a staggering 82 images and 33 videos of child pornography, further solidifying the evidence against LeBlanc.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas accepted LeBlanc’s guilty plea, setting sentencing for January 14, 2014. At this hearing, LeBlanc faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment, as well as a possible $250,000 fine.

Following his imprisonment, LeBlanc will be subject to a maximum of life on supervised release, during which the court can impose special conditions designed to protect children and prohibit the use of the internet. He will remain in custody pending the hearing.

The charges against LeBlanc were the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and officers with the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Stabe prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims. As this case serves as a stark reminder, the internet can be a breeding ground for predators, preying on the vulnerable and the innocent. It is the duty of law enforcement agencies and the community to work together to protect our children and bring perpetrators to justice.
