Local Man Indicted for Child Pornography Violations

A Sherman man has been hit with federal child pornography charges, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei today.

Jeffrey L. Walters, 52, was named in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Sherman charging him with receipt of child pornography. Walters pleaded not guilty to the charges at an initial appearance in federal court on Sep. 15, 2021, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christine A. Nowak.

A joint investigation by Homeland Security Investigations-Dallas and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office led to the discovery of a laptop and cellular phone owned and used by Walters. Forensic analysis of the laptop revealed that Walters had received child pornography, using the Internet, on multiple dates.

The child pornography depicted prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including depictions of sadistic and masochistic abuse, according to court documents.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. If convicted, Walters faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

This case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller.

A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
