Christopher Reese, Legal Fraud, New York 2024

New York’s Christopher Reese, also known as ‘Christopher Eugene Thomas,’ has been indicted by a federal grand jury for defrauding criminal defendants through his unauthorized practice of law. According to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, Reese deceived inmates and their families into paying thousands for legal services he was not authorized to provide.

For years, Reese ran a scam promising favorable outcomes in criminal cases that he couldn’t deliver, offering to draft and file legal motions in federal courts. Despite his claims of ‘money back guarantees,’ Reese often refused to refund fees after failing to achieve promised results.

The indictment alleges that Reese earned thousands through this scheme, while also committing additional crimes. During the scam, Reese was on supervised release for a separate case and made false statements to avoid paying restitution. He also laundered proceeds by using a co-conspirator as a ‘bank’ and engaging in financial transactions designed to conceal the source of his fees.

REESE, 56, of East Meadow, New York, faces one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years. Additionally, he is charged with unauthorized practice of law in federal court.

The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni.
