GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – A shocking case of methamphetamine trafficking has come to light in Montana with the guilty plea of Regina Ann Peters, a 51-year-old woman from Babb, Montana.
Peters, who pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in prison. She also faces a $10 million fine and at least five years of supervised release.
The crime, which occurred in October 2020, involved a package of methamphetamine mailed to Peters from Arizona. Officers made a controlled delivery of the package at the Babb post office, and Peters picked it up. When questioned by officers, Peters admitted to knowing about the meth in the package and that she had planned to deliver it to another person in Montana.
The package contained approximately 438 grams of methamphetamine, which is equivalent to a little less than one pound. One pound of methamphetamine is equivalent to 3,624 doses.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, United States Postal Inspection Service, the Russell Country Drug Task Force, the Northwest Montana Drug Task Force, and the Montana Highway Patrol.
Peters was released pending further proceedings, with sentencing set for January 20, 2022. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ethan R. Plaut is prosecuting the case.
