A 40-year-old Seattle man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing images of child rape and molestation, announced U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran. Nolan Paul Cyre was found to have hundreds of images of child pornography on his electronic devices in April 2018, while on probation for a state sex crime.
Cyre was previously sentenced in King County Superior Court to 34 months in prison for attempted commercial sexual abuse of a minor in February 2016. He attempted to pay a 15-year-old for sex acts. As part of his probation, Cyre was prohibited from possessing electronic devices that could access the internet. During a visit to his residence, probation officers discovered a laptop and other prohibited devices, which were seized and forensically analyzed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
The investigation revealed that the laptop contained 113 image files and 48 video files of known victims of child pornography. Cyre also has a 2011 arrest and military court conviction for possession of child pornography. Judge Robert S. Lasnik ordered him to pay $12,000 in restitution to the six victims identified in the child pornography on the laptop.
“You have an addiction, an attraction to using young children as sexual objects…. You have a lot of work to do,” Judge Lasnik told Cyre at the sentencing hearing.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) and the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC). The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson, a Senior Deputy King County Prosecutor specially designated to prosecute child exploitation cases in federal court.
Nolan Paul Cyre’s sentencing marks a significant victory in the fight against child exploitation. As part of Project Safe Childhood, federal, state and local agencies will continue to work together to bring perpetrators to justice and protect vulnerable victims.
