A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in South Dakota.
Ricky Jason Bedlingon, 43, was sentenced to three years of probation and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Bedlington was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a charge stemming from his failure to register as required by federal law between May 28, 2021, and May 31, 2021.
The conviction also relates to Bedlington’s failure to provide information required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act relating to intended travel to a foreign country.
Bedlington had previously been convicted of a sex offense in state court.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann M. Hoffman.
Bedlington was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of 2021 and pled guilty on August 29, 2022.
The sentencing took place on November 21, 2022, before U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier.
