Ricky Johnson, Child Pornography Possession, Louisiana 2014

LAFAYETTE, La. – A Chataignier man has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for possessing child pornography, according to federal authorities. Ricky Johnson, 53, was sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik for possession of child pornography.

Judge Haik also ordered Johnson to forfeit the devices used in the crime, which includes his computer and other electronic devices. This ruling comes after a guilty plea on February 5, 2014, where evidence revealed that Johnson was downloading child pornography from a file-sharing network online in early 2010.

The investigation, conducted by the FBI, revealed that Johnson’s computer and other electronic devices were searched in September 2010, and images and videos of child pornography were found. This is not Johnson’s first run-in with the law, as he has a prior conviction for molestation of a juvenile.

Johnson’s sentencing is part of a larger effort to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative, aims to marshal federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy prosecuted the case, which is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s effort to protect children from exploitation. Those concerned may leave tips with the FBI at tips.fbi.gov or contact the Lafayette FBI office at (337) 233-2164.
