Ginovanni Joseph Brumbelow, a 22-year-old from Gresham, Oregon, pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal law enforcement officer during a declared riot near a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland on June 14, 2025. Brumbelow struck a federal officer in the back of the head with a wooden stake while the officer was arresting another individual. The riot was part of a larger disturbance near the ICE facility. Brumbelow’s actions were caught and he was subsequently charged.
According to court documents, Brumbelow was indicted by a federal grand jury in Portland on July 15, 2025, on three counts, including assault on a federal officer, assault of a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, and civil disorder. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
As part of the plea agreement, Brumbelow has agreed to pay restitution in full to the victim. The case is being investigated by the FBI and Federal Protective Service, and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon. U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford made the announcement. Brumbelow will be sentenced on October 19, 2026, before a U.S. district court judge.
