Defendant Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges in Eastern District of Oklahoma
Muskogee, OK – In a shocking turn of events, Rito Alvarado Gomez, 36, has pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charges stem from a massive investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and several other law enforcement agencies.
The indictment alleges that Gomez and his co-conspirators willfully and knowingly conspired to possess and distribute methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Oklahoma and elsewhere from 2018 to March 13, 2024. The investigation revealed a complex web of drug trafficking that spanned several states.
Gomez’s plea is part of a larger Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach to identify and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and their networks.
The Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge, accepted the plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Gomez was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Erin Cornell and Jordan Howanitz represented the United States in this case. The investigation involved several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and the 8th North Drug Task Force of Hope, Arkansas.
The guilty plea marks a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking in Oklahoma. As the state continues to grapple with the opioid crisis, cases like this serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of drug trafficking on communities.
Gomez’s sentencing is scheduled for a later date. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
