Roam L. Beer, 51, of Rossiter, Faces up to 10 Years in Prison for Unlawful Possession of Destructive Device
A federal jury in Pittsburgh has found Roam L. Beer, 51, of Rossiter, Pennsylvania, guilty of one count of unlawful possession of a destructive device, a serious crime that could land him in prison for up to 10 years.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Beer threw an ignited homemade explosive device at the side of his estranged wife’s residence on January 5, 2024. The device, which had been weaponized with steel shot, narrowly missed his wife, who was inside the house.
Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the verdict, which was reached after one and a half days of deliberation by the federal jury.
Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer presided over the trial and is scheduled to sentence Beer on November 18, 2025. The law provides for a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, although the actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and Beer’s prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Kensington Police Department conducting the investigation.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. By fostering trust and legitimacy in neighborhoods, supporting community-based organizations, and setting strategic enforcement priorities, the program aims to make our communities safer for everyone.
