Wichita Man Gets 9+ Years for Federal Gun Crime
A Wichita man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for committing a federal gun crime, authorities said.
Robby Alan Murphy, 35, of Wichita, Kan., was sentenced Monday to 115 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction.
The charges stem from an incident on April 18, 2015, when Murphy and a co-defendant attempted to rob a drug dealer at a home near Cheney, Kan. During the attempted robbery, prosecutors presented evidence that Murphy was armed with a handgun.
Murphy had a previous federal firearm conviction and was prohibited from possessing a gun.
Co-defendant Byron Cadavid was sentenced to 38 months in federal prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall commended the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Lind for their work on the case.
This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of committing federal gun crimes. Those who have been convicted of such crimes can expect to face significant prison time.
