SCRANTON – A former Pennsylvania resident was sentenced to two years’ probation for his role in a steroids trafficking ring.
According to court documents, Robert Cartalemi, 32, of Henryville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, a felony offense, on March 2, 2017.
U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler stated that investigators intercepted a package containing multiple controlled substances on October 15, 2014, which Cartalemi had ordered from a known steroid supplier in China. The package was delivered to Cartalemi, and a search warrant was executed at his residence.
Cartalemi accepted responsibility for his actions and had no previous criminal history, which led Judge Richard P. Conaboy to impose a sentence of probation in lieu of imprisonment. As part of the sentence, Cartalemi will serve the first three months under home confinement and pay a fine of $2,000.
The case was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sean A. Camoni.
The sentencing marked the culmination of a lengthy investigation into Cartalemi’s involvement in the steroids trafficking ring. Cartalemi’s acceptance of responsibility and lack of previous criminal history were key factors in the judge’s decision to impose a sentence of probation.
Cartalemi’s case serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities, including steroids trafficking. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will continue to work tirelessly to hold individuals accountable for their actions and keep our communities safe.
