MAYS LANDING, NJ – A 31-year-old Atlantic County man is facing federal charges after authorities discovered what they’re calling “destructive devices” in his home, prompting a bomb squad response and a federal investigation. Robert J. Moser, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, was charged today with one count of possessing destructive devices, a charge that carries a potential ten-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
The case unfolded on March 17th when law enforcement responded to Moser’s residence following a 911 call reporting a possible drug overdose. According to court documents, officers found Moser unconscious and, while attempting to assist him, spotted suspicious, heavily-taped devices with exposed fuses in his bedroom. The scene was immediately secured, and at least two such devices were recovered.
Investigators quickly determined these weren’t simple contraptions. One device contained explosive powder, along with a chilling array of metal ball bearings and metal eye hooks – designed to maximize damage. The second device was packed with explosive powder and, even more disturbingly, metal dart tips, clearly intended to inflict injury. The ATF’s Newark Field Division took the lead on the investigation.
“Possessing these kinds of devices is a serious federal offense,” said U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger in a statement. The investigation involved a multi-agency response, including the Hamilton Township Police Department, the Atlantic City Police Department Bomb Squad, and the Atlantic City Prosecutor’s Office. The cooperation between agencies was critical in securing the scene and identifying the dangerous materials.
Moser is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew J. Skahill in Camden federal court today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Bender is handling the prosecution. It’s important to note that these are merely allegations at this point, and Moser is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops, providing updates on the investigation and any potential legal proceedings. The discovery of these devices raises serious questions about Moser’s intentions and the potential threat he posed to the community. The full complaint is available for review, detailing the evidence collected at the scene.
