Essex Man Sentenced for Distributing Child Pornography

A 55-year-old man from Essex, Maryland, has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography.

Robert John Wiseman, Jr. admitted to using a file sharing program on his desktop computer to search for and download child pornography.

During the execution of the search warrant, a forensic triage was conducted on Wiseman’s desktop computer and the detective located the video he had downloaded, as well as numerous other video and image files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The investigation was conducted by the Baltimore County Police Department, FBI, and HSI Baltimore. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rachel M. Yasser and Sandra Wilkinson are prosecuting the case.

Wiseman faces a minimum mandatory sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison, followed by up to lifetime of supervised release. Chief U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake has scheduled sentencing for January 6, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.

Wiseman will also be required to forfeit the computers, hard drives and other digital media seized during the search. In addition, Wiseman must register as a sex offender in the place where he resides, where he is an employee, and where he is a student, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

Wiseman’s guilty plea is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
