Robert McAdam, Engaging in Illicit Sexual Conduct with a Minor, New York 2020

ALBANY, NEW YORK – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Robert McAdam, a 49-year-old man from Rutland, Vermont, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

According to court documents, McAdam admitted to exchanging text messages with someone he believed to be the adult father of a 15-year-old girl, discussing his interest in having sex with the girl. He then traveled to New York in early June 2020 to meet with the person he believed to be the father of the girl, and arranged to have sex with the minor in a hotel room in Queensbury, New York.

On June 16, 2020, McAdam traveled from Vermont to a hotel room in Queensbury, where he was encountered by law enforcement and arrested. He was found to have brought alcohol that he intended to supply to the minor, as well as condoms.

United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also imposed a 15-year term of supervised release, which will start after McAdam is released from prison. As a result of his conviction, McAdam will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from incarceration.

This case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, including investigators with the New York State Police, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rachel Williams.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorney’s offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
