Gulfport, Miss. – Mark Anthony Robillia, 55, is going down for a long, long time – 420 months, to be exact.
The Gulfport man was sentenced to the maximum statutory sentence in U.S. District Court for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to court documents, on December 1, 2022, Robillia was found to be in possession of five firearms and approximately 40 grams of methamphetamine, wrapped in 13 separate baggies, at his residence.
Further investigation revealed that Robillia had purchased three of the firearms and the remaining two were given to him. But what’s worse, he’d been down this road before – Robillia had previously been convicted and incarcerated for aggravated assault, being a felon in the possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The evidence showed he was distributing methamphetamine from his residence.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Gulfport Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Buckner and Lee Smith prosecuting the case. Robillia was found guilty by a federal jury on February 7, 2024.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Anessa Daniels-McCaw of the Drug Enforcement Administration made the announcement, no doubt hoping to send a message to those like Robillia who think they can get away with this sort of thing.
Robillia’s 420-month sentence may be a record, but it’s a harsh reminder that the consequences of these crimes can be severe. The maximum statutory sentence for the drug charge is 240 months, and 180 months for the firearms charge. Robillia will be spending the next 35 years behind bars, and that’s a hard pill to swallow.
