Rochester Man Charged in $200,000 Jeweler Robbery

A brazen home invasion robbery shook the Town of Greece on October 7, 2014, leaving a jeweler and his wife shaken and traumatized.

Citing federal authorities, Grimy Times has learned that Clarence Lambert, 22, a Rochester native, has been charged with obstructing commerce by robbery, and possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. If convicted, Lambert faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for the robbery charge, and a minimum of seven years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $250,000 fine for the possession and brandishing of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to Assistant U.S. Robert A. Marangola, handling the case, Lambert allegedly participated in the armed robbery of a jeweler in the Town of Greece on October 7, 2014. The perpetrators pistol whipped the jeweler and his wife, locking them in a closet, before stealing in excess of $200,000 in cash, diamonds, and luxury watches.

The investigation, led by the Greece Police Department, under the direction of Chief Patrick Phelan, Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of James S. Higgins, Special Agent in Charge, New York Field Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Scott Crosier, and the Rochester Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Ciminelli, culminated in the identification of Lambert as one of the three armed robbers.

A dramatic chase ensued on October 14, 2014, when Lambert attempted to pawn one of the stolen watches at a local pawn broker in Rochester. Police pursued Lambert, who led them on a foot chase before being caught hiding in a box in a garage on Frankfurt Street.

Lambert made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson, where he was detained and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. The case serves as a grim reminder of the violent crimes that plague our community, and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and Lambert is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
