Rochester Man Guilty of Child Pornography

A 33-year-old Rochester man has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for his involvement in a child pornography case, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

Douglas C. Tatner, II, was convicted of possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 48 months in prison and 12 years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer, officials announced.

The case against Tatner began in January 2012, when members of the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant at his former residence on Glide Street in Rochester. The warrant was issued after a witness reported seeing images of child pornography depicting children 12 years old and younger on the defendant’s computer.

Tatner admitted to possessing images of child pornography, some of which depicted pre-pubescent minors. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee handled the case and praised the efforts of the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Task Force and the Rochester Police Department, which assisted in the investigation. The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel.

The Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief James Sheppard, also played a key role in the investigation. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of the public’s role in preventing child exploitation. If you or someone you know has information about a child exploitation case, report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST or visit www.missingkids.org.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York commends the efforts of all agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
