Rochester Man Sentenced for Fentanyl Trafficking
A 27-year-old Rochester man is heading to prison after being convicted of conspiring to possess and distribute large quantities of fentanyl. Jerry Figueroa was sentenced to 18 months in prison by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.
According to authorities, Figueroa was part of a drug trafficking organization that sold controlled substances in the area of Wilkins Street in Rochester. Between April and November 28, 2018, Figueroa supplied the organization with controlled substances that were then packaged and sold on the street.
The investigation into Figueroa’s activities was led by the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Barry Chase, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, New York Field Division, and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, under the direction of District Attorney Sandra Doorley.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cassie Kocher handled the case and stated that Figueroa used different cellular phone numbers to communicate with his co-conspirators.
The prosecution of Figueroa is a significant blow to the city’s efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. Fentanyl has been linked to numerous overdoses and deaths in Rochester and surrounding areas.
The sentencing of Jerry Figueroa serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in fentanyl trafficking. The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding those responsible for these crimes accountable and working to keep our communities safe.
