Rochester Man Sentenced for Marijuana Trafficking and Gun Charges
A 46-month prison sentence has been handed down to David Colon, a 37-year-old Rochester man, for his role in a marijuana trafficking operation and possession of a firearm. On October 10, 2008, officers from the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at Colon’s residence, located at 104 Maple Avenue in Irondequoit.
During the search, officers discovered over 400 grams of marijuana in the basement storage area, as well as two digital scales, marijuana packaging material, and $4,000 in cash. Additionally, a defaced .38 caliber revolver and a book detailing marijuana cultivation were recovered. Colon’s statement to officers revealed that he was dealing marijuana from his home and carried the firearm to protect his family from potential robbers.
The investigation, which led to Colon’s conviction, was conducted by the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, consisting of law enforcement personnel in Monroe County under the direction of Rochester Police Department Acting Chief Michael Ciminelli, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Cannon. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles E. Moynihan handled the case.
Colon’s sentence is the culmination of a lengthy investigation into his involvement in marijuana trafficking and possession of a firearm. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm, making his conviction on this charge all the more severe.
The Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team’s efforts to combat marijuana trafficking and gun violence in the community have been instrumental in bringing Colon to justice.
