ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The gritty streets of Rochester witnessed a pivotal moment in the city’s drug war as Tavares Wilson, a 41-year-old local, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr., for his role in a massive cocaine conspiracy.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Wilson conspired with others between November 2020 and October 26, 2021, to sell at least 500 grams of cocaine. The defendant, who operated from his Genesee Park Boulevard residence, procured kilogram quantities of the drug, dividing them into smaller doses for re-sale.
On October 26, 2021, the DEA and IRS Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant at Wilson’s home, uncovering a trove of evidence: over 642 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, cash totaling $6,594—presumed proceeds from his criminal activities—and a digital scale etched with cocaine residue.
The charges against Wilson carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison, along with a staggering $5,000,000 fine. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford is prosecuting the case.
U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross emphasized the severity of the offense, stating, ‘This guilty plea underscores our commitment to dismantling drug trafficking operations that threaten our communities.’ Sentencing is set for May 1, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., before Judge Geraci.
The investigation leading to Wilson’s conviction was a joint effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division. Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III of the DEA New York Field Division and Thomas Fattorusso, also of the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, were instrumental in the case.
