Rock Springs Resident Convicted of Tax Evasion
A Rock Springs resident has been convicted of tax evasion and misuse of a social security number, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming announced today.
Jamie Nieto, 53, was found guilty of tax evasion and misuse of a social security number by a jury on June 27. Nieto also used his business checking account, which the IRS could not levy to collect his personal tax debt, for all of his personal expenses.
The case was investigated by special agents from the Cheyenne office of IRS Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming.
Nieto faces a maximum penalty for tax evasion of five years in prison and a $100,000 fine. He also faces a maximum penalty for misuse of a social security number of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 5, 2016, before Chief United States District Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal.
