Super 4 Seasons Car Wash Owner, Price Gouging, New York 2023

NEW YORK – Super 4 Seasons Car Wash in Rockland County is facing serious allegations of religious discrimination, accused of deliberately inflating prices for Jewish customers ahead of Passover. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced today her office has forced the car wash to cease the practice, deeming it a blatant scam targeting a vulnerable community during a significant religious observance.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) investigation revealed that in the weeks leading up to Passover, Super 4 Seasons advertised a “Passover Special” cleaning promotion specifically aimed at Jewish customers. This “special” cost a staggering $169 – more than three times the standard $47 price for the same service. The OAG launched its investigation in April 2024 after receiving numerous complaints detailing the discriminatory pricing.

Undercover testing confirmed the disturbing pattern. An OAG investigator, dressed in traditional Orthodox Jewish clothing, was explicitly told that only the overpriced “Passover Packages” were available. A car wash employee even reportedly stated, “We are doing this just for you guys.” Meanwhile, a second investigator, not displaying any religious identifiers, was offered and sold the standard-priced services without issue. When asking about the Passover promotion, an employee chillingly admitted it was “for Jews,” justifying the higher cost by claiming their cars were “so dirty.”

The OAG dug deeper, uncovering sales records that proved standard services *were* being offered throughout the Passover period, despite employees’ claims to the contrary. Promotional signs further cemented the discriminatory practice, boldly stating “Passover Packages & Up,” falsely implying standard washes were unavailable. This isn’t a recent development either; the OAG found evidence of similar Passover-specific price hikes dating back to at least 2018.

Attorney General James is demanding Super 4 Seasons immediately halt all discriminatory practices and is explicitly barred from advertising special pricing linked to religious holidays. The car wash is also prohibited from charging Jewish customers more than others for the same services and cannot restrict service availability in the two months before and during Passover. Failure to comply will result in a hefty $75,000 penalty.

“Targeting Jewish New Yorkers with deceptive pricing around Passover is a clear act of religious discrimination and will not be tolerated,” Attorney General James stated. “Every New Yorker, regardless of their faith, deserves to be treated fairly and equally. My office will not hesitate to hold businesses accountable when they exploit families’ religious observance.” James recently issued a consumer alert urging Jewish communities to remain vigilant against such predatory practices. This case serves as a stark reminder that religious freedom includes protection from financial exploitation.
