Hassan Elliott, Multiple Murders, Pennsylvania 2024

PHILADELPHIA – United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentencing of Hassan Elliott, also known as “Haz,” a 26-year-old from Philadelphia. Elliott was handed down a sentence of 900 months in prison for his role in a drug gang’s deadly activities. The gang, referred to by several names including “SG1700” and “L-Block,” operated out of the Frankford area of Northeast Philadelphia.

Elliott, along with Khalif Sears (23), Kelvin Jimenez (34), and Dominique Parker (34), were charged in March 2023 with conspiracy to engage in a racketeer influenced corrupt organization (RICO) and violent crimes including murder. Elliott and Sears pleaded guilty this January, while Jimenez and Parker were convicted at trial.

The sentence came after a violent confrontation on March 13, 2020, when Sergeant James O’Connor of the Philadelphia Police Department was killed during an attempted arrest of Elliott for the 2019 murder of Tyrone Tyree. Elliott opened fire with an assault rifle, ultimately taking the life of the officer.

U.S. Attorney Metcalf emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, “Hassan Elliott murdered a police officer who was protecting and serving his community.” He added that the sentence reflects justice for the victims and honors the sacrifice of Sergeant O’Connor.

Eric DeGree, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Philadelphia Field Division, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies to bring those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice.
