Santiago Rodriguez Campos, Sexual Assault, DC 2018

WASHINGTON – Santiago Rodriguez Campos, 34, was handed a 36-month prison sentence today for sexually assaulting four women in Northwest Washington, D.C., according to U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu. The Mexican national, who lived in Alexandria, Va., pleaded guilty in November 2018 and will spend three years on supervised release following his prison term.

Campos was convicted of two counts of fourth-degree sexual abuse and two counts of misdemeanor sexual abuse for attacks that occurred between September 2016 and June 2018. He must also register as a lifetime sex offender, with deportation proceedings likely to follow upon completion of his sentence.

The first incident took place on September 5, 2016, when Campos approached a woman walking home, reaching between her legs from behind. DNA evidence later confirmed him as the perpetrator.

In October 2016, another victim was attacked by Campos while walking to her car. She described being grabbed and groped in an attempt to flee. A suspicious substance was recovered at the scene, linking Campos through DNA testing.

Two more attacks occurred in May and June 2018. In one of these incidents, a woman reported Campos grabbing her by the neck and touching her intimately before fleeing with an unknown liquid on his hands.

Campos was apprehended in August 2018 and has been in custody since, facing the severe charges that led to today’s sentence.
