Julian V. Rodriguez, 21, of Johnston City, has pleaded guilty to methamphetamine offenses, according to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Donald S. Boyce.
The plea hearing revealed that Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and one count of distribution of methamphetamine. The evidence presented at the hearing showed that Rodriguez was involved with others in the distribution of ice and marihuana in Williamson County.
Ice, a type of methamphetamine with a purity level of at least 80%, was distributed by Rodriguez between December 2016 and January 23, 2017. During his plea, Rodriguez admitted to being responsible for the distribution of more than 500 grams of ice and 540 pounds of marihuana.
The investigation into Rodriguez’s activities was conducted by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Williamson County States Attorney’s Offices. The offenses carry a maximum penalty of 5-40 years of imprisonment, to be followed by four years of supervised release, and a $5,000,000 fine.
Rodriguez’s guilty plea is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking in Illinois. The Southern District of Illinois has seen a surge in methamphetamine-related cases in recent years, and this plea demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to prosecuting those involved in these crimes.
The case against Rodriguez serves as a reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks. As the investigation and prosecution of Rodriguez’s case come to a close, the community can take comfort in knowing that one more individual involved in the distribution of this deadly drug is being held accountable.
The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Donald S. Boyce, announced the guilty plea and praised the work of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. The sentence for Rodriguez will be determined at a later date, and he faces the possibility of significant prison time and fines for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine.
