DALLAS, Texas – Rolando Benitez, 35, was sentenced to 245 months in federal prison for his role in a heroin trafficking operation.
Benitez, also known as ‘San Luis,’ pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute a schedule I controlled substance on Oct. 24, 2016.
According to court documents, Benitez and others possessed with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of heroin from Oct. 29, 2014, to Feb. 2, 2015.
The investigation that led to Benitez’s arrest was a joint effort by the FBI, Dallas Police Department, and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, with assistance from multiple other law enforcement agencies.
Assistant U.S. Attorney George Leal prosecuted the case.
Benny Benitez was arrested in July 2015 following a law enforcement operation.
The case against Benitez is a significant blow to heroin trafficking in the Dallas area, a region that has struggled with the opioid epidemic in recent years.
The sentencing of Rolando Benitez serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are committed to dismantling heroin trafficking operations and bringing those responsible to justice.
