Firearms Seized in Burrillville, Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI – In a bold move, law enforcement agencies in Rhode Island have taken drastic action against a local resident suspected of firearms trafficking. On Thursday, officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Burrillville Police Department executed a court-authorized search warrant at the residence of Ronald Andruchuk, 37, resulting in the seizure of 211 firearms and pounds of ammunition.

The search was prompted by a series of incidents involving shots fired at Andruchuk’s residence, with officers responding to the scene for the ninth time in recent months. Upon arrival, law enforcement reported that shots were still being fired, with several rounds passing within four feet of the officers. Andruchuk was allegedly found to be wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying four firearms and methamphetamine.

The investigation, part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, revealed that Andruchuk had purchased 169 firearms from federally licensed dealers between July 2021 and November 2021, allegedly making false statements on ATF applications. A subsequent probe uncovered a history of drug-related activities, including an incident in April 2018 where Andruchuk was found to have a strong odor of marijuana and was in possession of oxycodone pills, morphine, and naloxone.

The defendant is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, false statements in an application to purchase firearms, and causing false records to be kept by a federally licensed firearms dealer. Andruchuk’s current status is arrested and awaiting trial. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ronald R. Gendron and Sandra R. Hebert.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative is a key component of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s violent crime reduction efforts. By partnering with local law enforcement and community organizations, the program aims to identify and address the root causes of violent crime, ultimately leading to a safer and more just society.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring that firearms are purchased and possessed responsibly. It also highlights the critical role that law enforcement agencies play in protecting communities from those who would misuse these instruments.

As the investigation continues, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Rhode Island for all.
