Ronald W. Allen, Jr., 41, is behind bars for life after being convicted of sexually abusing a minor under the age of 12 on the Fort Polk Military Base. The former Army soldier’s reign of abuse spanned more than four years, from April 2012 to June 2016, hiding in plain sight where he lived and served. U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey handed down the maximum sentence, ensuring Allen will never walk free.
The abuse was exposed when the child, attending school near the Louisiana base, disclosed explicit details to a trusted adult. That tip triggered a swift response from local law enforcement. The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation, leading to a forensic raid on Allen’s residence. Inside, agents recovered DNA evidence from the scene of the assaults—genetic material that matched Allen’s without question.
Following a two-day trial in August 2019, a federal jury in Lafayette found Allen guilty on all counts. The verdict slammed the door on any chance of leniency. The trial laid bare the calculated, repeated nature of the crimes, committed by a man sworn to protect and serve. Instead, Allen exploited his position and the trust placed in uniformed service members to prey on a vulnerable child.
Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook made it clear: “This sentence sends a clear message that those who abuse children will be brought to justice.” He emphasized the added betrayal when the perpetrator wears a military uniform. “These crimes are particularly heinous because children put their trust in adults and especially those who serve in the United States Military,” Van Hook stated.
Federal and local agencies stood shoulder to shoulder in bringing Allen to justice. The FBI, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, and the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department pooled resources and expertise. Prosecutors John Luke Walker and Daniel J. Vermaelen of the U.S. Attorney’s Office secured the conviction, ensuring accountability under the full weight of federal law.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, the DOJ’s nationwide push to dismantle networks of child sexual exploitation. The initiative marshals federal, state, and local forces to hunt down predators, rescue victims, and lock away offenders. For more on the program, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
