A St. Louis felon has been handed a 27-year prison sentence for multiple gun crimes, according to a recent court ruling.
Roosevelt Easley, 40, was found guilty of two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm after a two-day bench trial in October.
Easley was sentenced to 25 years for the gun crimes and two additional years for violating his supervised release in a 2018 case in which he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, cocaine base, and methamphetamine.
The sentencing came after Easley was involved in a series of incidents with law enforcement. In March 2022, he was stopped by St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers who found marijuana and a firearm in plain view in his vehicle.
On September 10, 2022, Easley was involved in a police chase after attempted to evade a traffic stop. He eventually crashed into a tree before running away and abandoning his vehicle. Officers found two firearms in the vehicle.
Easley has at least three previous convictions for violent felonies or serious drug offenses, which subjected him to the enhanced penalty provisions of the Armed Career Criminal Act.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Donald Boyce and Nichole Frankenberg prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at fighting violent crime and protecting communities.
