Rosebud Man Sentenced for Assault
A brutal assault on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation has ended in a six-month prison sentence for a 36-year-old man.
Jason Riley, 36, was sentenced to six months in custody, two years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on February 10, 2014.
The assault occurred on October 13, 2010, at the Sicangu Village Housing, where the victim approached Riley and asked for a cigarette, sparking a verbal disagreement. Riley struck the victim, who was also kicked by another man while on the ground, leaving him with multiple abrasions, soft tissue bruising, and a nose bone fracture.
Riley was indicted for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on November 8, 2011, and later pleaded guilty on November 19, 2013. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
This case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher prosecuting the case.
