Lawrence Bordeaux, Methamphetamine Distribution, South Dakota 2014

A Rosebud man has been sentenced to 21 months in custody for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy, according to federal prosecutors.

Lawrence Bordeaux, 31, was sentenced on June 1, 2015, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange for his part in the distribution of the controlled substance.

Bordeaux was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 10, 2014, and had pleaded guilty on March 3, 2015, to Conspiracy to Distribute and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.

The conviction stems from a March 2014 traffic stop on the Rosebud Reservation, where Bordeaux did not have a driver’s license and was suspected of being under the influence. A police service dog indicated twice on the vehicle, leading officers to search Bordeaux and his vehicle.

During the search, officers found three rolled bundles of money totaling $1,200 in Bordeaux’s pocket, a digital scale, and a marijuana cigarette in his vehicle. Additionally, three containers containing 7.48 grams of methamphetamine were found on his person.

Bordeaux admitted to distributing methamphetamine, mainly in South Dakota. The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case, and Bordeaux was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
