PEORIA, Ill. — Aaron Rossi, 42, from Morton, Illinois, faced the music on July 15, 2025, as he was sentenced to a stiff 37-month prison term for healthcare and wire fraud surrounding fraudulent COVID testing at his lab, Reditus Labs.
The former health care provider’s schemes bilked Medicare, Illinois state, and several private insurers out of $525,520.61, according to the Department of Justice. Rossi was also required to cough up a recreational vehicle worth an estimated $1 million in forfeiture.
While Rossi has been incarcerated since August 2023 for previous fraud convictions, he received credit for time served on additional charges for possessing contraband while behind bars.
The case against Rossi began unraveling in June 2024 when a federal grand jury indicted him on 11 counts of healthcare and wire fraud. He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of healthcare fraud in April 2025, just as he was serving time for defrauding an ex-employer and filing false income taxes.
Chief U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow pointed out Rossi’s recurring pattern of greed and hubris during the sentencing hearing. She emphasized that Rossi capitalized on the COVID pandemic, using his position to exploit others rather than help them. The judge also noted Rossi’s high risk of recidivism, citing previous frauds and jailhouse conduct.
Acting United States Attorney Gregory M. Gilmore praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in this case. He emphasized the office’s commitment to holding those responsible for fraud accountable, underscoring the severity of the penalties for such crimes.
