A Washington, D.C. man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for his role in a child pornography ring.
Ruben Verastigui, 29, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after pleading guilty to receipt of child pornography on July 9, 2021.
According to court documents, Verastigui was an active member of an online group dedicated to trading child pornography and discussing child sexual abuse from April 2020 through February 2021.
Verastigui shared child pornography videos with other group members and made numerous comments about sexually abusing children, including expressing a preference for babies and soliciting videos of babies being raped.
Verastigui was arrested on February 5, 2021, and has been in custody ever since.
He will be placed on five years of supervised release after serving his prison term and will be required to register as a sex offender for at least 15 years.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
