Ruiz Guevara, Illegal Reentry, California 2023

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a stunning turn of events, Miguel Angel Ruiz Guevara, a 53-year-old citizen and national of El Salvador, has been charged with illegal re-entry into the United States following his removal from the country multiple times. The allegations come as a result of an investigation by U.S. Border Patrol.

Ruiz Guevara, who was apprehended on August 29th, 2025, in Bowmansville, NY, is facing serious charges that could land him behind bars for up to ten years and a fine of $250,000. The defendant had previously been ordered removed from the United States in 1992, 2005, and 2011.

According to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, Ruiz Guevara was questioned about his citizenship at a local hotel where he was staying. He presented an El Salvadorian passport but no legal documents allowing him to remain in the country. Further investigation revealed that Ruiz Guevara had been convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) three times, which constitutes a felony.

Michael J. Smith, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney handling the case, emphasized that the charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Ruiz Guevara made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy, where he was detained pending further proceedings.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and ensuring community safety.

The investigation into Ruiz Guevara’s illegal re-entry was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol under the direction of Patrol Agent-in-Charge David Banks. The grim reiteration of illegal immigration within our borders serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies across the country.
