A Weirton man has been convicted of possession of child pornography, a federal crime that carries a significant prison sentence.
Ryan Bobby Schnettler, 25, was discovered in October 2015 to be in possession of child pornography in Hancock County, West Virginia.
He pled guilty today to an Information charging him with ‘Possession of Child Pornography.’
Schnettler faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Vogrin on behalf of the government, with the West Virginia State Police investigating.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over the case.
Schnettler’s conviction is a significant result of the government’s efforts to combat child exploitation.
