Ryan Ernst Nyberg, Methamphetamine Distribution, Louisiana 2014

Three men, accused of conspiring to distribute a massive amount of methamphetamine, have been charged in a federal indictment unsealed in Louisiana. Ryan Ernst Nyberg, 33, Christopher Byron Fritchie, 42, and Naser Yousef Gheith, 35, are accused of working together to distribute over 500 grams of the highly addictive and destructive substance.

According to the indictment, Nyberg, Fritchie, and Gheith allegedly conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Louisiana and elsewhere from 2011 through 2014. Nyberg, a U.S. citizen, currently resides in Germany, while Fritchie and Gheith are also U.S. citizens and reside in the San Francisco area.

The indictment charges the three men with one count of conspiring to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute five hundred grams or more of methamphetamine. If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, and at least five years of supervised release.

On March 20, 2014, German Customs Investigation Bureau authorities arrested Nyberg in Duisburg, Germany. The United States intends to formally request his extradition from Germany. On April 29, 2014, DEA Agents arrested Fritchie in San Francisco, California. Gheith remains at large.

The DEA New Orleans Division Office investigated this case with assistance from the DEA Frankfurt, Germany Country Office and the DEA San Francisco Division Office. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Payne.

The indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. U.S. Attorney Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr. reiterated that the indictment is not a conviction and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on our communities. The highly addictive and destructive substance ruins lives, destroys families, and fuels crime. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and keep our communities safe.

In related news, the DEA is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of Gheith, who remains at large. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the DEA at [insert contact information].
